A full day in Brest

05/11/2022

The first races of the day started at around 10:30 am, under a fresh sun and a sufficient amount of wind to allow the best young European IQ Foil racers to distinguish themselves on the Brest water. First in the marathon and then in the slalom, the different competitors of the gold and silver fleets chased the qualification for the final phases of the European Youth IQ Foil Championships.

As for the results, there are some changes. Maria RUDOWICZ from Poland takes the lead from Ada Tan, who is currently in 2nd place and has been leading the U17 women's team until now. Behind her, we find two French girls, Faustine GALLIC who offers herself a nice 3rd place and leaves the 7th place to the Spanish Ariadna PATIÑO RIUTORD followed by Juliette NAPOLEONE who gains one place and goes to the 4th of her ranking. The young Frenchman, Noé GARANDEAU, is getting used to his first place and still dominates the U17 category in the boys' category. With him, three other well ranked Frenchmen: Antoine MARTIN (3rd) and Gadeyne LUCAS (5th) keep their places and Kylian MANHAVAL who takes the 7th place. Skip BRÜLL from the Netherlands (8th) said he had some problems today: "There was a bit less wind today, so normally I am still in front. But there was a lot of seaweed. Every time I reached the top 5, I got stuck in some seaweed and it slowed me down a lot. So I'm a bit disappointed with today, but I'm going to give it my all for the final tomorrow. Anything is possible".

The U19 women's ranking keeps the same people at the top. Tamar STEINBERG keeps the first place, Kristyna PINOSOVA in 2nd and Tuva OPPEDAL 3rd, who again this time overtakes her compatriot Oda SVERRE. The French Manon GIRE takes the place she needed to enter the Medal Race, thus closing the top 10 of her ranking. In the boys' category, Poland is in 10th place with Stanislaw TREPCZYNSKI, the Spaniard Nacho BALTASAT SUMMERS gains one place and settles in 3rd place, followed by the Australian Harry JOYNER.
Saturday promises to be a rainy day, with a good average wind, but we can be sure that there will still be a good show on the harbour of Brest.
