Windsurfing, still a symbol of hope and freedom

In the sometimes difficult international news of the last weeks, talking about windsurfing may seem "secondary" or even inappropriate when others are struggling to live or survive. But beyond a passion and a sport for some, windsurfing is and remains also a beautiful symbol of hope for others...
The proof is in the event reported by the local media in Florida, USA, in the last 48 hours and the windsurfer who was rescued last Wednesday off the Keys, having left Cuba a few hours earlier.



A diving instructor, Elian Lopez left the coast of Cuba on Tuesday, equipped with a life jacket and a backpack as well as a GPS and a mobile phone, leaving behind his wife and daughter, with the sole objective of reaching the United States.
He was finally rescued the next day on Wednesday by the US Coast Guard, who found him very weak and dehydrated. Elian Lopez's relatives, some of whom live in Florida, said that he was suffering from cancer and that he considered the trip to the United States as the only way to receive the necessary medical care.
Now under the care of the US authorities, another battle begins for Elian Lopez, that of not being deported to Cuba and receiving medical care...
