Victory for Sarah-Quita Offringa and Yentel Caers

05/08/2023

By beating Adrien Bosson twice, Yentel Caers won the freestyle event at the Fuerteventura Windsurf World Cup and, at the same time, his 1st victory on a PWA World Tour event. Meanwhile, Sarah-Quita Offringa pocketed her record 14th title in the discipline!

Frustrated at seeing his route come to an end in the semi-finals, Yentel Caers decided to turn this frustration into motivation to achieve a rare feat, beating the winner of the single elimination twice. Faced with Amado Vrieswijk, Yentel Caers immediately came up trumps with a score of 47.2 points. After beating Antony Ruenes, Caers had the luxury of beating Adrien Bosson twice, putting in a solid and effective performance. Although 2nd and inevitably disappointed, Bosson got his season off to the best possible start and remains in contention for the world title. On the 3rd step of the podium, Antony Ruenes is back on the international podium, where he hasn't been since 2014! In 4th place, Amado Vrieswijk demonstrated his incredible versatility after taking 4th place in the slalom a few days earlier. Finally, Jacopo Testa and Lennart Neubauer, who were eliminated prematurely in the single elimination, made a superb comeback on Friday to finish 5th and 6th respectively.

In the women's final, the favourite, nervous but determined Sarah-Quita Offringa met Maaike Huvermann. In a breathless final, Offringa unrolled her arsenal of technical manoeuvres. An air funnel followed by a masterfully executed pasko tipped the balance in her favour. A 14th freestyle world title and a 21st crown add to her impressive list of achievements. Norway's Oda Johanne rounded off the podium in this freestyle event in Sotavento.
With the official competitions now over, the competitors in this Fuerteventura Windsurf World Cup will meet again for the final day on Saturday, with an expression session on the programme for the day!
