The Windsurfing Hall of Fame ceremony in Gruissan

29/03/2024

The trend will have escaped no-one, especially if you spend any time on social networks: vintage has made a remarkable breakthrough in recent months, in windsurfing as in other areas.
Jonathan Weston founded the Windsurfing Hall of Fame in 2021 and was its president for 3 years. Involved in the sport since 1972, he followed the development of the sport in Florida, California and then followed the 2nd wave of riders to Hawaii. As a photographer, he won the 1990 NPPA, Canon, Kodak and Sports Illustrated Photo of the Year award. He went on to become a pioneer in onboard camera filmmaking and was the first person to windsurf in Hookipa with a movie camera on his helmet. He is the creator of films such as Impact Zone, Double or Nothing and Wind Legends. The Windsurfing Hall of Fame (WSHOF) has already celebrated 3 'classes' of riders, in 2021, 22 and 23, and the list of those included so far has become a veritable 'Who's Who' of windsurfing history.
New for 2024, the Windsurfing Hall of Fame, under the impetus of Cliff Webb, its new director, will be organising its very first induction ceremony during the Défi Wind in Gruissan, in the south of France. These 'Oscars of windsurfing' will take place on the main outdoor stage from 7.30pm on 9 May. And it's a great line-up that's expected, with the likes of Björn Dunkerbeck and Antoine Albeau confirmed to date, as well as older glories such as Brian Talma, Nevin Sayre, a regular on the world circuit in the 80s, windsurfing freestyle specialist Andrea Livingstone, and also Ken Winner, Fred Haywood and Anders Bringdal!
