The PWA Tour introduces Slalom X!

31/01/2024

The PWA World Tour is unveiling a major revolution in the world of windsurfing with the introduction of Slalom X for the 2024 season. Now that the divergence between foil and fin has reached its peak, this evolution will see the emergence of two distinct disciplines: slalom foil and the brand new Slalom X.

As we recently reported (see our article of 16 January 2024), a wind of change is blowing through the PWA World Tour this season, which has decided to distinguish (at last!) between foil and fin in the slalom discipline. Slalom foiling will continue to embody the pure essence of racing and will maintain its status as a playground for technological innovation. It will remain at the heart of all slalom events on the PWA World Tour, offering intense battles and epic challenges in a variety of conditions. However, Slalom X will mark the return of the classic finned slalom, bringing an entirely new dimension to the competition. Comparable to the World Rally Championship or Formula 1 in the automotive sector, Slalom X will test the limits of the athletes, confronting them with unprecedented challenges.

This daring discipline will be reserved for windy destinations such as Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, offering a range of unique features for opportunities never before seen in slalom. Slalom X will take the action to the next level, creating an unforgettable spectacle for windsurfing enthusiasts. The Slalom X aims to explore inaccessible foil terrain, looking for more than just speed. By incorporating features that demand control and mastery, this discipline will determine the true champion, the one capable of triumphing in the most demanding conditions. Beach starts and finishes are included, as are chicanes and obstacles to spice up the race. Other options include full-fleet races, slalom in the waves and long tacks, giving a total of 9 options for the race directors to choose from.
Following in the footsteps of Super X, Slalom X is set to offer a different experience as the PWA World Tour enters a new era of more spectacular and visual racing...
