One elimination and that s it

30/07/2023

A short window of action saw just one elimination in the men's competition at the Fuerteventura Windsurf World Cup on Saturday. The opportunistic Dane Johan Soe won the only race of the day, taking the lead at the same time.
On this third day of the Fuerteventura Windsurf World Cup in Sotavento, dedicated to the slalom discipline, conditions were unpredictable, with the wind picking up to between 14 and 19 knots in the early afternoon.

The foil racers were up front and in the final of the men's 6th heat, just as Nicolas Goyard seemed to be heading for another win, fate decided otherwise. The Frenchman hit the swell on the approach to the finishing straight and allowed Johan Soe, who had been lurking, to take control of the race. With his first win of the event, Johan Soe extended his lead in the overall standings to 4.4 points over Nicolas Goyard. The fight for the overall victory promises to be an explosive one, especially as the 7th elimination will see the entry of the 2nd discard.

Amado Vrieswijk held on to 3rd place, but had to watch out for Matteo Iachino, who moved up to 4th place after his good result today. Pierre Mortefon also remains in the race for the podium, just 2 points behind the top 3. The battle for the podium promises to be just as fierce over the next 2 days. Reigning world champion Maciek Rutkowski had a difficult day, dropping to 6th place after failing to qualify for the final. Rounding out the top 10 are Michele Becker, Bruno Martini, Daniele Benedetti, who is making a name for himself with every race, and William Huppert.
Sunday will be the penultimate day of competition
in Sotavento, with winds forecast to reach 25 knots and the suspense still running high...
