Light breeze in Mondello

It strengthens the supremacy of home athletes perfectly at ease in the waters of Mondello. The second day of competitions of the world championship of the Windsurfer class saw again the protagonists of the Sicilian surfers. Even today great spectacle in the gulf illuminated by a beautiful sunny day. At the Albaria 350 sailors from 25 nations will conclude Sunday, October 11 this beautiful event that combines sport and entertainment on the beach.

In the lightweight category, with a first and a fourth place, keeps the lead Marco Casagrande dell’Albaria, followed by the usual Australians and French and the Roman Andrea Marchesi, 2 strong in the provisional ranking. To be noted is the 5 place in the surprising Blasco Aronica Cv Sferracavallo, at the command of the group under 15. The palermitan leads the ranking despite this fourth place due to a penalty for “pumping”. Great recovery instead of the gold of Los Angeles 1984, the Dutchman Stephan Van den Berg who led the middle-light category in front of the Tuscan Piombino Alessandro Torzoni.

With two other first places today, Alessandro Alberti, the 48-year-old from Palermo of Clubino del Mare, holds the lead of the medium-heavy category, The new Italian champion of Vieste precedes in the standings two other Palermo club Albaria. Marco Ferrera, second and Giuseppe Zerillo, third.without problems the other emblem of the circle Albaria, the Olympic Riccardo Giordano.  Thursday winner of the two races of the heavy category, Giordano has left behind the Frenchman Antony Lecadre and the Australian Matty Whitnall. Almost race in itself among the 60 women of Marsala Laura Linares who continues to lead the ranking (4 first places) in front of the compatriot Rachele Balini. In the late afternoon, the closing program of the day with the spectacular slalom batteries only for the female category.
An event this World “Windsurfer” organized in synergy with other local entities, including the Circolo Canottieri Roggero Lauria, the Clubino del Mare and the company Mondello Italo-Belgian with the support of the Department of Sport of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Department of Tourism of the Sicilian Region. On Friday the race starts, wind permitting, at 10.30.
