Emma Wilson and Nicolas Goyard still in the lead

15/07/2023

UPDATE: As on the previous day, there will be no rest for the competitors, as Saturday 15 July will be a day of racing for the men and women in iQFOil.

4 Slalom races launched on Thursday at the Test Event in Marseille have enabled Emma Wilson and Nicolas Goyard to extend their lead in the overall rankings ahead of Sunday's medal races...
No two days are alike in Marseille. The generous Mistral wind of the previous day gave way to a light south-westerly breeze on Friday, the 4th day of competition in this Test Event. And although there was initially a rest day on the official programme, this 14th of July turned out to be a day of racing like any other, with 5 races on the programme, the iQFOil competitors being later than the other Olympic series.

After the medal races in kitefoil, and the victories in the passage of Frenchmen Laurianne Nolot and Axel Mazella, it was at 5pm that the first races began in the Slalom format in a south-westerly wind that rarely exceeded 10 knots.
In the women's race, Sharon Kantor, Lucie Belbeoch, Emma Wilson and Maja Dziarnowska each won one of the day's 4 races on an intense course requiring a good start and precision. With a lead of 16 points, Wilson takes the lead ahead of Sunday's medal race.

In the men's race, Nicolas Goyard won twice, followed by New Zealand's Josh Armit and Germany's Sebastian Kördel. As the days went by, the consistency of Australian Grae Morris paid off, enabling him to take 2nd place in the provisional overall ranking, just 2 points ahead of Italian Nicolo Renna.
Sunday's medal races will give us a chance to start (almost) from scratch after a long week of racing that proved that anything is possible...
