At least 1 race for the U17s

27/08/2022

Thursday was the fourth day of the iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championship in Silvaplana and, even though the wind took a while to come in, at 16:00 we were able to send the first group into the water for course racing.

After two days of Qualifying Series, today the men sailors were reassigned into Gold and Silver groups based on their ranks in the previous series. The top 50% of the fleet race in the Gold group and the other 50% in the Silver group. With wind between 10 and 12 knots, the U17 Gold fleet was the first to complete a race. They were followed by the Pink fleet (women U17), who had better conditions of wind, ranging from 12 to 16 knots. The third race was for the U17 Silver fleet, but it had to be cancelled at the beginning of the second upwind because the wind dropped and half of the fleet was not foiling. Being almost 18:00 and with not good wind conditions, the Race Committee declared the racing day over and everybody was sent to land.

Results in the U17 boys, the French Noé Garandeau (FRA 38) remains on first place. Tom Nicolle (FRA 55), who dropped to third after a protest yesterday, had a very good performance winning today’s race and accomplished to climb up to second place overall. The Polish boy, Igor Lewinsky (POL 30), who yesterday was second after the protest, today took the third place overall after a tie break with the French Nicolle.
In the girls fleet, the Hungarian Simon Hanna (HUN 70) climbed to the first place, leaving Ada Turn (TUR 4108) in the second place overall, after a 6th place in today´s race. In third place still is Maria Rudowicz (POL 71), who had an amazing race today and got first to the finish line.
