A technical start in Silvaplana

25/08/2022

The second day of the iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championship 2022 in Silvaplana started at 10am with the daily Skippers Meeting, where the intentions for the racing day were shared by the race comittee.

It was followed by the Fun Speed Challenge prize giving, sponsored by Severne and Dakine with amazing gifts. On the U19 category, Charlie Dixon (GBR 724) took the first place in the men fleet reaching a speed of 29.4 knots and Maya Gysler (NOR 21) in the women fleet with 26.0 nots both taking home an iQFOiL 8.0 Severne HGO Sail as prize.
On the U17 category, Ian Anic (CRO 30) was the first in the men´s fleet with a speed of 27.0 knots and Ada Tan (TUR 4108) took the first place in the women´s fleet with 22.7 knots. They both got a 7.0 Severne FGO - iQFOiL Junior as well. A point to highlight is that Ada, being in U15 category, was the fastest girl in the whole U17 women´s fleet. In the U15 category, Marius Polo (FRA-908) was the fastest boy achieving to sail 25.1 knots and -of course- also Ada Tan (TUR 4109) won in this category. They were both awarded with Severne GO Booms.

At 1pm, the Maloja wind (south wind) was strong enough to put down the AP flag and the Slalom races started. There are 248 competitors from 28 different countries registered in this second edition of the iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championship. We had two different slalom courses, Malogia and St. Moritz, and six different groups of sailors. We were able to launch plenty of heats and managed to complete 3 races with each age group: U19 men/ women, U17 men/ women and U15 men/ women. It was a long day of racing with gusty wind conditions but still very good racing performance.
Leading in U19 we have the Israeli Tamar Steinberg in women and the british Charlie Dixon in men. In U17, Simon Hanna (U15) from Hungary is in the first place so she is actually leading both, the U17 and U15 categories in women. In U17 men we have the French Tom Nicolle leading and in U15 the Turkish Artun Senol.
