A long day and Slalom in Torbole

05/07/2023

Thanks to windy conditions, the iQFOil Youth & Junior European Championships continue on Tuesday on Lake Garda in Italy with Slalom on the day's programme and the final races completed just before 8.30pm!

The northerly thermal, the Peler, is making itself scarce on this Tuesday morning for this new day of racing at the iQFOil Youth & Junior European Championships, but it's precisely at midday that the Ora, the other southerly breeze this time, takes over. The race directors opted for the Slalom format and the races continued without interruption. At around 5.30pm, half of the Under 17s had finished their races, while the other half were still in the running due to a number of general recalls caused by early starts. Fortunately, the women's races started when half of the men's Under 17 fleet had finished, freeing up 1 of the 2 courses for their competition. The young women showed their determination by completing 3 races, bringing their total to 7 in both the U17 and U19 classes. Finally, at around 8.30pm, the last of the U17 boys crossed the finish line and were safely escorted back to dry land. These hard-fought races marked the end of the qualifying series, paving the way for the finals, which begin on Wednesday.

In the young women's U19 category, Italy's Carola Colasanto retained her lead, closely followed by Norway's Maya Gysler and Israel's Danielle Ziv. In a fierce battle, the top 3 U19 boys are separated by just one point. Italian Federico Alan Pilloni is in 1st place, sharing the same number of points with Australian Harry Joyner. Jacopo Gavioli is in 3rd place with 8 points.
In the young women's U17 category, Italy's Medea Falcioni maintained her leading position, closely followed by Spain's Caterina Tomas Cardell and Poland's Maria Rudowicz. In the U17 boys' event, Israeli Peleg Rajuan took 1st place, overtaking Turkey's Artun Senol and France's Kylian Manhaval to complete the podium.
As the iQFOil Youth & Junior European Championships progress, the races are becoming increasingly intense, with the focus now on qualifying for Saturday's medal races.
