A fine day and a great Marathon

08/07/2023

On Lake Garda, with its reputation intact, the Peler and then the Ora winds take place on Friday for the 5th day of the iQFOil Youth & Junior European Championships. The programme includes the famous Marathon, followed by Slalom races in the afternoon before the medal races on Saturday.

Scheduled for the day before, the Marathon is the order of the day for this Friday's iQFOil Youth & Junior European Championships, with competitors starting at 6.30am to take advantage of the Peler, the morning northerly thermal wind. With a rabbit start for the U19s and a more conventional start for the U17s for safety reasons, the competitors set off for at least 1 hour of racing.
In the men's U19s, Australian Harry Joyner won ahead of Italy's Jacopo Gavioli, even though Poland's Trepczynski Stanislaw was in the lead for most of the race, before making a mistake at the last mark. In the U19 women's fleet, Czech Kristyna Pinosova took victory, closely followed by Estonian Emma Viktoria Millend and Italian Carola Colasanto.

The U17 boys' fleet was marked by a fine performance from France's Kylian Manhaval, who took victory and the overall lead. Poland's Maciej Dabek took 2nd place, while Israel's Peleg Rajuan, leader until now, completed the top three. In the U17 girls' category, Italy's Francesca Maria Salerno reigned supreme over the Marathon, navigating the course efficiently. Spain's Caterina Tomas Cardell finished just behind, followed by Turkey's Ada Tan.
After the Marathon, 2 other races will be run in the Slalom discipline in order to refine the rankings and determine the top 10 athletes in each category who will have the opportunity to take part in the medal races on Saturday. After 5 intense days of competition, Harry Joyner (U19), Carola Colasanto (U19), Kylian Manhaval (U17) and Caterina Tomas Cardell (U17) are already set to go home with a medal...
