3 questions to Camille Juban

03/03/2023

After the recent release of his film "Switch - Camille Juban a life commitment", 2023 marks the beginning of a new season for Camille Juban... In an interview with Windsurfjournal.com, the Guadeloupean waverider talks about the making of this documentary and about the PWA IWT Unified Wave Tour, which he will take part in this year.

Windsurfjournal.com: How did this Switch documentary project come about, what was the starting point?
Camille Juban: Basically, this project was born during the renegotiation of my contract with the Oxbow team. They prefer to prioritize projects over riders and often offer larger budgets per year. So I thought the first idea to propose would be a compilation of all my best shots in a 10 minute video. But all this without knowing how to manage the narrative or the thread of the video. I thought I would do it the American way or the Candide Thovex way: let my entourage speak in interviews. After a dozen interviews, we realized that we had more than enough material to make a 50-minute documentary. And so, with Nomis Production, we threw ourselves into it for 6 months. The name "Switch" was already in the list of titles and, without asking, 3/4 of the people we interviewed used the word themselves, so it came naturally...

WJ: How were the previews you attended, and what was the feedback on the film?
CJ: There have been a couple of previews with over a hundred people and, to be honest, I wasn't expecting any. I've had nothing but good feedback so far, so it's good motivation to make more videos!

WJ: You've been following the merger of the IWT and PWA circuits this year... How does that inspire you in general, and how do you plan to organize your season according to the proposed calendar?
CJ: I think it's great, and it gives guys like me a chance to do well overall. The only problem is that it's expensive and the sponsors have to follow! At the moment it will be a test year for them and for us. As I had planned, I'm going to do the three events I want to do, Chile, Fiji, and Maui.
