The title for Offringa, the single for Martin

30/10/2023

On Sunday, the 2nd day of the Maui Strong Aloha Classic, Hookipa was the scene of a fine spectacle despite the continuing light winds. Sarah-Quita Offringa won her 3rd world title in the women's event, while Antoine Martin won the single elimination.

In the men's competition, Antoine Martin was the man in form on Sunday, and the Guadeloupe native gave his all in the race for the world title by winning the single elimination. But Marcilio Browne, by securing at least 4th place in this event, ruled Martin out of the title race. But Martin is still in with a chance of winning the Aloha Classic for the 2nd time in his career.
The battle for the men's title remains intense, with Marcilio Browne now in the lead after Ricardo Campello was eliminated in the semi-final. Browne currently leads with 27,429 points, ahead of Campello by just 176 points. But it's not over yet, and the suspense remains. Campello has a chance of regaining 1st place if he can defend his 5th place in the double elimination, providing an exciting scenario for the days ahead.

On the women's side, Sarah-Quita Offringa brilliantly won the single elimination, securing her 3rd PWA World Wave Championship title. Her victory means she can no longer be caught up in the rankings, guaranteeing her the world title.  In a tight battle for 2nd place, Coraline Foveau beat Maria Behrens by just 0.04 points. Shawna Cropas, despite qualifying for the final, had to make do with 4th place. With a light wind and swell, the double elimination is set to begin on Monday, with the men's world title still a long way off.
