Records to be broken at La Palme

16/06/2023

After the Prince of Speed - ISWC World Championship last April, it's back to La Palme in the South of France, where speed enthusiasts will gather from 1st to 30th June for a waiting period event. This time the target is the Nautical Mile and 2 great days of racing on 14th and 15th June with new records to be confirmed!

After the famous 500-metre race last April, it's the Nautical Mile and the symbolic 1852-metre distance that the Prince of Speed competitors will be tackling throughout the month of June, in a competition based on the principle of waiting for the best conditions before starting. And after a long period of calm that marked the end of the Défi Wind, the Tramontane finally returned to the region on 14 and 15 June! Competitors from all over Europe, and even from the United States with kitesurfer Rob Douglas, were able to take advantage of the conditions and test their limits on a demanding course that requires endurance above all else.

And in this little game, it was Antoine Albeau, who had been crowned 2023 World Speed Champion on the same spot a few weeks earlier, who stood out by beating his own nautical mile record, set in July 2020, with 43.34 knots compared to a speed of 43.04 knots.. On the women's side, Heidi Ulrich is also dominating the discipline, proving it by twice beating her record set in June 2019 (37.62 knots) with 37.68 and then 38.44 knots.
In addition to these performances, which will have to be validated and ratified by the WSSRC (World Speed Sailing Record Council) in the coming days, it should be noted that numerous national records were broken during these 2 days, both in fin and foil racing...
