A busy day in The Hague

In slightly windier conditions than the day before in The Hague in the Netherlands, the competitors in the Allianz Sailing World Championships alternated between Course Racing and Slalom. Luuc van Opzeeland and Emma Wilson are in the lead, even though the week of competition still promises to be long...

After a long wait the day before, it was the women who took to the water first this Wednesday in The Hague in the Netherlands for the 2nd day of the Allianz Sailing World Championships, devoted to the iQFOil category. The first races in the Course Racing format gave way to those in Slalom, and the consistency of England's Emma Wilson enabled her to take the lead after 5 valid races. France's Hélène Noesmoen had a good 1st day and was 2nd, closely followed by China's Zheng Yan. Less than 3 points separate the 3 women in the overall standings, proof that the rankings can still change rapidly...

On the men's side, who also switched from the Course Racing format to Slalom due to the weakening wind, Tuesday was marked by 2 consecutive victories for Italy's Nicolo Renna, taking him to the 2nd step of the provisional podium. In form and very consistent, local rider Luuc van Opzeeland took command of the event, while German Sebastian Kördel, leader the day before, was now 3rd. Less present than the day before, Frenchman Thomas Goyard dropped from 3rd to 8th place, while his brother Nicolas was 18th...
Wednesday sees the continuation of the Allianz Sailing World Championships, with the rankings still subject to change...
