3 questions to Marcilio Browne

27/07/2022

After an impressive comeback in the double elimination of the Gran Canaria Windsurf World Cup in the Canary Islands, Brazilian Marcilio Browne finally finished 2nd in the event. Now leading the provisional annual wave rankings, he talks to Windsurfjournal.com about his performance in Pozo Izquierdo.

Windsurfjournal.com: 9th after the simple elimination and finally 2nd of this event in Pozo Izquierdo, you finally do quite well... How does that make you feel?
Marcilio Browne: Fells great for sure. I was feeling disappointed after the single with myself for not finding lots of waves during the heat I lost. Looking by the forecast at that point, we were all uncertain about if we were going to be able to run the double or not. Luckily, it all came together on the last day, the conditions even looked a little better than what it was forecasted and i was happy to have another chance at it. Going throught all those heats was an amazing feeling and definitely something i am never going to forget.

WJ: How did you experience this double elimination and these 6 heats? Which one was the most difficult and why?
MB: It was a crazy experience for sure. 6 days back to back in Pozo is exhausting. I was trying to do what I needed but also not completely exhaust myself in case I had to sail the heat. All the heats were difficult and to be honest I didn't check the scores after any of them. I was just focused on what I had to do and how to improve for the next one. When I look back all those guys are amazing sailors and I have lots of respect for all of them.

WJ: 2nd in Cape Verde and 2nd in the Canaries, you are now leading the annual wave ranking... Are you ready for a new world title 9 years later?
MB: Would be a dream, but that’s not something I am thinking about right now. With only 3 events in a year, Sylt plays a massive role on the ranking. So right now. I am focused on staying fit, sailing and shifting the focus a bit more to riding some bigger equipment. Sylt is kind of a bit of everything, so after the Canaries and lots of portack I choose to come to Brasil and spend some time doing starboard tack jumping.
