3 questions to Lina Eržen

12/12/2023

For her 1st participation in a PWA World Tour slalom event, Slovenia's Lina Eržen made no compromises and won the Fly! ANA Windsurfing World Cup in Yokosuka, Japan, beating the world's best! Speaking to Windsurfjournal.com, she looks back on a victory that got everyone talking...

Windsurfjournal.com: Could you introduce yourself for those who don't know you and tell us about your background?
Lina Eržen: I’m 18 years old from Slovenia and I have been windsurfing for about 10 years. When I was younger I did climbing as well as windsurfing. At the age of 12 I decided to become a professional windsurfer, especially in freestyle and wave. I trained with my brother Val and competed all over the world. Due to the lack of competitions in freestyle and wave in 2020, I decided to join the new Olympic discipline in windsurfing. I was soon drawn into the racing waters. At the moment my main focus is on iQFOil but I also do some slalom, freestyle and foil freestyle.

WJ: From freestyle to the iQFoil via a 1st victory in slalom for your first PWA slalom event, that's an amazing sporting achievement! How does that inspire you?
LE: I am very excited about what I achieved at the PWA in Japan. I love racing, speed and the tactical decisions that come with it. I will definitely be attending more PWA events in the future!

WJ: Can you tell us about your equipment use in Japan, any equipment borrowed at the last minute?
LE: I only used two sails and a foil I borrowed from a friend. I think it is not necessarily about the equipment, it is also about the rider. Japan was definitely an amazing experience and I hope to do it again soon.
