3 questions to Cyril Moussilmani

30/12/2022

After Antoine Albeau, another great page is turned with the retirement from the international scene of another great French windsurfer, Cyril Moussilmani (see our article of December 23rd 2022). In an interview with Windsurfjournal.com, the Frenchman from the south of France talks about his decision and his career...

Windsurfjournal.com: You were a little less present on the international scene since 2020, what motivated your decision when you are "only" 42 years old?
Cyril Moussilmani : Since the world tour has been losing momentum for the last 3 years, because of the Covid, the foil and the iQFOil, I found that it was no longer interesting to train as I used to for only 1 or 2 events per year. Even if I still have sponsors who follow me, it's not very attractive anymore.

WJ: To your impressive list of achievements and in particular 2 vice world champion titles, in 2005 in Super X and in 2014 in slalom, you are only missing a PWA world title, is this a regret with hindsight?
CM: A little, but that's not going to keep me awake at night! I've always given my best in all the seasons I've done in PWA, whether it was slalom, Super X, waves or Formula. The only regret I have is that the partners did not follow me 200% in what we did. There were a lot of promises and possibilities, but when I read the contracts, the grip was tightened. It's more of a regret even though I'm not going to blame them because they've all helped me a lot over the years.

WJ: How do you look back on the sport over the years?
CM: There was more fun at the beginning of my career, there were more parties, it was more friendly overall between the riders. The sport became more professional, there was the Internet with the media and it became a bit more complicated...
