Vincent Valkenaers wins in La Palme

10/11/2023

The Prince of Speed - WST Cup - ISWC Grand Prix, the last of the speed events to be held in La Palme in the south of France, ended on 3 November with a clear victory for Belgian Vincent Valkenaers.

Initially scheduled to run from September 1 to October 15, the Prince of Speed - WST Cup - ISWC Grand Prix was extended during the autumn due to unfavourable weather conditions. The event will finally take place on Friday 3 November at La Palme in the south of France. In the absence of Antoine Albeau, on the starting line for the Lüderitz Speed Challenge, it's the outsiders who are in the spotlight, with 8 windsurfers taking part, including Belgium's Vincent Valkenaers and Frenchmen Cédric Bordes, Pascal Boulanger, Sam Esteve and Brendan Lorho.

In highly technical conditions with irregular winds and a choppy run with waves at times, Belgian Vincent Valkenaers won the day's 2 races, claiming the best speed of the day at 42.69 knots. Cédric Bordes and Pascal Boulanger rounded off the day's podium, while Sam Esteve proved that he has more than just freestyle talent, despite his 'small' frame.
With the speed season now over at La Palme, all eyes now turn to April and the world championships.
