Martini and Guiraud take the lead at Torbole

25/06/2023

After a day of light winds on Friday, the RRD One Hour Classic on Lake Garda finally got underway on Saturday with 2 validated races, one in the fin class won by Bruno Martini, the other in the foil class won by Lucas Guiraud.

A classic event on the Italian and European calendars, the RRD One Hour Classic, organised by Circolo Surf Torbole on the shores of Lake Garda, took place from 23 to 25 June. With many professionals already away or on their way to the PWA event in the Canaries, the line-up was less prestigious than in previous years...
After a 1st day on Friday during which the wind was too discreet to have any hope of taking to the water, it was early on Saturday afternoon that the Ora, the southerly thermal, finally picked up and blew at up to 20 knots before finally stabilising at around 15 knots. At 2pm, the 1st race of the weekend got underway with an hour's racing between 2 buoys, the winner being the rider who completes the most laps. The big favourite, Bruno Martini, dominated, completing this big 8 in 1:04'24" and 20 laps ahead of Germany's Malte Reuscher and Denmark's Noah Vinther.

In a lighter breeze, the competitors set off in foils at 4pm for another race on the same course. In an event he knows well from having already won in 2021, Frenchman Lucas Guiraud finished in 1h00:27" and completed 23 laps ahead of Bruno Martini and Daniele Benedetti. Continuing his good start to the season, France's Alexis Mathis took 5th place, just behind Denmark's Sebastian Kornum.
