A full day in Puerto Sherry

11/03/2022

Profitable day today in the bay of Cadiz for the second day of the International iQFOil Games Cádiz, thanks to a wind that, from less to more, ended up marking a splendid racing day. The Slalom has been for the second day the chosen format for all classes until completing three races more for the seniors and Sub 21, and two for the Juniors Sub 17 and Sub 19. With the addition of the third race, a discard in all classes comes into play, more valuable for some than for others.

The U21 leader rises to second overall thanks to the discarding of an 11th, with two 5ths in the other two races. The Finn Jacob Eklund is two points behind, validating a 1st and a 5th, and like the previous ones ruling out a puncture.
For his part, the last Spanish Olympic representative, the Canarian Ángel Granda, is forced to work hard to return to the top, after a very irregular day in which he has gone from less to more from 23rd to 15th and 1st. Granda is now fourth, three points off the provisional podium, one less than the second Under 21, the American Alexander Temko.
Great day for the Finnish Aleksandra Blinnikka, who surprises with three first places and rises from fourth to first place among women. Two points behind is Italian Giorgia Speciale, 1-5-1, and then Spanish Nicole Van der Valden, who despite losing the first place stays in the top three. For her part, the Andalusian Blanca Manchón (CN Sevilla) placed fifth with two 5th and one 7th, tied with the Hong Kong Ma Kwan Ching (5,1,19), fourth. Changes also in the U21 leadership, now in the hands of the Italian Sofia Renna (9,7,17) by two points over the Turkish Merve Vatan, today 19th, 3rd and 13th.

Overturned at the head of the male U19 category, where Frenchman Emile Roullet now rules with two 1st and one 3rd, followed with six more points by the Poles Maciej Pietrzak and Konrad Machura, tied for second and third place, respectively. The first Spaniard in this class is the Andalusian Alejandro Arauz from CN Puerto Sherry, who is in thirteenth place, just two points from the top10.
Among the girls, the Polish Pola Wawrzyniak adds a 2nd to her first yesterday and uses the discard of an 11th to remain leader by the minimum of one point over her compatriot Aleksandra Wasiewicz, who won today’s first test but is forced to discard an overealy in the next. The third place with two more points is for the French Lila Bondois, 4th and 2nd. The first Spaniard is the windsurfer from CN Sevilla, Lucía García-Cubillana, seventh in the jump-off in her favor with the Polish Katerina Altmannova.
One point now separates the Andalusian Antonio Medina (RC El Candado) from the leadership among the Under 17 boys, after today he was surpassed by the Polish Igor Gdavisla with two victories against a 3rd and a 2nd from Malaga. Third place goes to another Spaniard, the athlete from CN Salou, Cesar Alonso, who in his aspirations must control the strong pressure he receives from behind, with the Portuguese Martim Mendes and the Spaniard also from Salou Sandro Portune, tied for fourth and fifth place to a single point.
Among the girls, the Polish María Rudowicz remains the leader, followed with two and three more points in this order by the Hungarian Hanna Simon and the Andalusian Arancha Sahuquillo from CN Sevilla, who exchange their positions with respect to the first day.
Today the regatta received the visit of the general director of Sport Promotion, Healthy Habits and Sports Fabric of the Junta de Andalucía, María de Nova, who wanted to see first-hand the atmosphere of the championship and visit together with the president of the Andalusian Federation of Sailing, Paco Coro, the facilities of the CEEDA (Sports Educational Excellence Center), also accompanied by the territorial delegate Miguel Andreu and the Councilor for Sports of the El Puerto de Santa María City Council, Lola Campos.
This Friday the appointment reaches its equator with the third of its five days, and the first departures scheduled at 12:00. Everything indicates that the rain and the strong wind will be the ones that mark the pace this day.
