3 questions to Takara Ishii

16/03/2022

6th after having recovered 5 heats during the double elimination of the SOMWR 10x Cabo Verde PWA World Cup in Cape Verde recently, the Japanese Takara Ishii is the revelation of this first wave event of the season. For Windsurfjournal.com, he looks back on his landmark performance!

Windsurfjournal.com : 6th in your first senior competition on the PWA World Tour, did you expect such a result?
Takara Ishii: I trained in Maui for almost 6 months last year, so I'm used to sailing in these conditions, and I felt I was at a good level compared to the others. But I didn't expect to be 6th in this event! It's a great result for me.

WJ: Can you tell us about your comeback in the double elimination?
TI: I wasn't nervous during the whole double elimination. Earlier I had done a big aerial head back that got a high score, so I knew what I had to do! I just tried to do my best and enjoy the moment! It was very nice to do several heats even though I was getting tired after 2 full heats.

WJ: With Takuma Sugi 8th, this is a historic result for Japanese waveriders, what does it mean to you?
TI: I am very happy with everything that happened. The fact that two Japanese entered the top 8 of an event is the best result ever in the history of Japanese windsurfing. As a bonus, many Japanese windsurfers followed this competition and this had a huge impact! I hope this will motivate young windsurfers and make them dream. It is also a good start for a better promotion of windsurfing in Japan. And the Japanese team will continue to make a name for itself!
