3 questions to Bruno Martini

12/07/2022

Winner of the Croatia PWA World Tour in Croatia last week, Italian Bruno Martini takes his first slalom win on the PWA World Tour. For Windsurfjournal.com, he talks about this event and the cancellation of the competition scheduled for the end of July in Fuerteventura.

Windsurfjournal.com: With few international events in recent months and a change of sponsors during the winter, how did you feel when you arrived in Croatia?
Bruno Martini: To be honest, the passage to another brand even if we are talking about NeilPryde and JP Australia wasn't that easy, as a rider I really spend a lot of hours trying to understand 100% of the material and to trim it perfectly. In Croatia actually, I was feeling with my materials but not at 100% yet.

WJ: The fight for the final victory was very close with Pierre Mortefon and Matteo Iachino, what do you think made the difference?
BM: Yes, the first mark action with Pierre Mortefon was fun, I think he made one small mistake that cost him the victory. To be honest after the first mark, I just fought with myself, I knew if I was doing everything good they would never gonna catch me. Anyway, only after crossing the finish line, I realise that I was fighting until the end with two huge champions, and that is for sure the most beautiful thing.

WJ: How do you feel about the cancellation of the race in Fuerteventura and how do you see the rest of the season, which is still very uncertain...?
BM : I’m really disappointed with the PWA and I feel that our sport is about to die, this take me really down, specially after many years of hard work to be on the top. But what is actually happening in Fuerte I really don’t know, what i know is that the PWA have to change something to restart with events and not only in slalom foil. I think, like many of you, this is one of the best sports in the word, so we have to do something to restart and show to the world how beautiful it is and how fun it is to practice windsurfing.
