Season over for Philip Köster

22/08/2023

Philip Köster has called time on his 2023 season after undergoing surgery on his left foot a few days ago. G-44, who is currently undergoing a lengthy period of rehabilitation, will have to wait until next season before hoping to win a 6th world title.

On the 11th of May, Philip Köster injured his left foot while training at his home in Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. What was initially thought to be a broken metatarsal and therefore not requiring surgery turned out to be much more serious, with several torn ligaments and an inevitable trip to the operating theatre.

After a consultation with Professor Markus Walther in Munich, Germany, in early August, the decision was made for Philip Köster, who had withdrawn from the Fiji Surf Pro in early June, but had managed to finish 5th in the Gran Canaria Windsurfing World Cup in early July, a real achievement in retrospect when G-44 was limping in the car park and on the spot before entering the water!
Currently at Red Bull's APC (Athletes Performance Center) in Salzburg, Austria, where freestyler Lennart Neubauer has also been, Philip Köster has many months of rehabilitation ahead of him and hopes to repeat his 2017 feat of becoming PWA World Wave Champion just one year after a knee injury...
