Racing and Slalom in Cadiz

09/03/2023

The day began in the bay of Cadiz, where the International iQFOiL Games Cadiz started on Wednesday with wind from the SW with a 12 knots average windspeed, this allowed the race committee to do more than twenty starts between the two racing areas. Both Course and Slalom races have been sailed during the day where all age groups were able to race.

The Frenchman Adrien Mestre made an impressive start to the event by winning 5 out of 6 races in the men’s senior fleet. Adrien seems to have maintained his streak after winning the Lanzarote International Regatta only a few weeks ago. The only one to break Mestre’s perfect score was US sailing team member Noah Lyons who won race 2 of the day. In the women’s fleet it is Maja Dziarnowska (POL) who takes the lead after winning the first two races of the day. Not far behind her is Ingrid Puusta (EST) with only one point difference between them keeping the scoring very tight. In third place we find Polish windsurfer Zofia Noceti followed by Merve Vatan (TUR) who is leading the U21 women’s ranking at the moment.

In the Under 19 (years old) fleet we have the Latvian Davis Mazais who managed to win the last three races of the day putting him on top of the ranking for now. Mazais is closely followed by Maciek Pietrzak who has equal points with the latvian after the first discard. Polish Igor Lewinski is only one point behind them making this one of the closest score rankings we have seen so far.
Poland's Aleksandra Wasiewicz made no mistake in the U19 girls' fleet, winning all five events to start with a comfortable seven-point lead over Czech Kristyna Chalupnikova, who came second in all 3 course races but then had more trouble with the slaloms. Third place with two more points goes to Polish Karolina Gajdzinska, who raced very well in the slalom races.
The youngest age group at this event, the Under 17 are led by Caterina Thomas (ESP) in the girl’s fleet after only having sailed one race. Thomas is followed by Medea Marisa Falcioni (ITA) and Melilla Azul Sanchez in third.
Thursday the first possible start will be at 11am here in the bay of Cadiz with a very promising forecast.
