Complicated conditions on the Balearic Islands

05/04/2023

In unstable wind conditions, Tuesday's Trofeo Princesa Sofia on the Balearic Islands is all about the women, with Israel's Sharon Kantor leading the way in the slalom.

With many nations using this regatta as an observation or even a one-off selection event for this summer's test event, the stakes are much higher than a year ago. Getting off to a good start in the series is more important than ever, especially in classes where countries have several athletes competing.
After the men's competition on the previous day, the women's event will take place in the Bay of Palma, where the wind is as unpredictable as ever. Priority is given to the slalom by heats discipline. In these conditions, where no mistakes are forgiven, it is the Israeli Sharon Kantor who proves to be the most consistent with 3 wins out of a possible 4.

She is followed by Emma Wilson from England, Giorgia Speciale from Italy and Pilar Lamadrid from Spain. France's Marion Couturier is in 5th place, while among the favourites, Hélène Noesmoen is only in 18th place at the moment... It is also worth mentioning the good performance of the Israeli Tamar Steinberg, Junior World Champion in 2021, Youth World Champion in 2022 and currently 6th in the senior category.
On Wednesday, the Trofeo Princesa Sofia will continue in Palma de Mallorca with the last day of qualifying before the competitors are divided into two separate fleets, Gold and Silver.
