Youngsters in action in Aruba

06/06/2025

Scheduled to run from 28 May to 2 June, the Aruba Hi-Winds PWA Youth Slalom ended on a high note, buoyed by sustained winds of 25 to 35 knots and ideal conditions on the turquoise waters of Aruba. For four days, the young competitors put on an intense show, mixing foiling and classic slalom, with remarkable performances in all categories.

In the U21 boys' category, Brendan Lorho dominated with impressive mastery, winning all his classic slalom races and establishing himself as the undisputed leader. Kasper Nielsen shone in foiling, taking the lead after a memorable day marked by five victories. The battle for the podium was fierce, with Tame Mondria taking third place thanks to her consistency.

In the U21 girls' category, Bobbi-Lynn de Jong dominated the event, winning the foil and classic slalom races with disconcerting regularity at just 15 years of age. Her sisters, Kit and Lone de Jong, as well as Louise van der Meulen fought hard for the places of honour, offering tight and spectacular races right up to the final day.
The youngest competitors did not disappoint, with Arxon Gomperts and Tycho Smits dominating the U15 and U17 categories respectively, confirming the talent of Bonaire's young windsurfers. Despite a few incidents, such as Olivier van Sisseren's injury, the atmosphere remained competitive and friendly from the first to the last day.
This meeting in Aruba enabled us to reveal a new generation of windsurfers. Next stop: Bonaire from 13 to 18 June for new battles on the water!
