Unpredictable weather in Sylt

05/10/2025

Saturday, the ninth day of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt, was marked by unpredictable weather. Constant rain and unstable winds made for a long day, with only nine heats completed in nine hours. But by late afternoon, the wind finally picked up, providing a spectacular show at the German spot for the wave event.

In the women's competition, young Sol Degrieck caused a sensation. After narrowly avoiding elimination in the semi-finals, the 15-year-old Belgian turned the situation around in the final seconds before winning the final thanks to her daring performance on a big wave. This success marks her first victory on the world circuit, confirming her immense potential. Behind her, Lina Erpenstein put in a fine performance on home soil, finishing second a year after her foot injury. Justyna Sniady completed the podium with a remarkable comeback, while Sarah-Quita Offringa and Alexia Kiefer Quintana, the favourites for the world title, were knocked out in the semi-finals. As a result, the title race remains open between Offringa, Kiefer Quintana and Degrieck, who is now back in contention ahead of the final stage in Maui.

On the men's side, only the top eight are still in contention for the final stages. Among them, Philip Köster, Victor Fernandez, Marcilio Browne and Marc Paré promise an explosive clash on Sunday, with wind forecasts of over 30 knots and 4-metre waves, making for what promises to be a tough battle. Unfortunately, as Sunday at the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt is basically a reserve day, there will be no live broadcast of the event...
