Two final days without wind

20/08/2025

From 12 to 17 August, Alaçati Bay in Turkey hosted the IFCA Grand Slam Fin & Foil Slalom World Championships. Despite unpredictable weather conditions, the event offered some spectacular races. Although the Fin Slalom was unfortunately cancelled due to insufficient wind, the Foil Slalom lived up to all expectations.

In the Open category, Johan Søe left his rivals standing. The Dane dominated the competition from start to finish, winning all four heats. With an impressive, flawless performance, he secured the 2025 world title. Behind him, Dutch rider Sem Stroosma took second place on the podium, while French rider Benoît Merceur completed the top three. In the women's category, which raced alongside the men, Dutch rider Femke van der Veen stood out. Twelfth in the overall standings, she finished first among the women, ahead of Turkey's Zeynep Hacudi and Elif Ercan.

The Youth/Junior categories were also full of twists and turns. In Youth, France's Sacha Fortune confirmed his status as favourite, winning thanks to his consistency and speed, despite resistance from Denmark's Kasper Nielsen. Another Frenchman, Brendan Lorho, took a fine third place. Eighth in the overall standings, Frenchman Jean-Loup Francis won the Junior category. In the Youth/Junior Women's category, Turkey demonstrated its strength. Defending champion Damla Kurtdemir once again dominated her category, winning ahead of her compatriots Melis Bas and Nisa Ustundag.
Beyond the results, the atmosphere in Alaçati contributed to the success of this event. Between intense competitions, rising young talents and unpredictable weather that confirmed the supremacy of foiling, this 2025 edition will be remembered as the one where Johan Søe delivered a perfect performance.
