Titles awarded in Naxos

19/10/2024

On a windy Friday in Greece, the FPT Naxos, the final stage of the Freestyle Pro Tour, crowned the new 2024 European freestyle champions: Maaike Huvermann and Lennart Neubauer. Yentel Caers and Lisa Kloster were runners-up.

It's one day after another in Naxos, Greece, with windy conditions that put on a great show on Friday during the double eliminations. This was the last chance for the riders to move up the rankings, including Kiri Thode who shone, eliminating Rafael de Windt and Julien Join in turn. The tension was ratcheted up a notch when Dieter van der Eyken took on Meiky Wieczorek in a high-flying duel. With van der Eyken leading, Wieczorek pulled off an incredible double air culo in the dying seconds to win.

In the other half of the field, Jacopo Testa won six consecutive heats, beating Nebelung, Howard, then meeting Takumi Moriya for a rematch, before losing to Yentel Caers. In the final, despite Caers' best efforts, it was Lennart Neubauer who came out on top, officially becoming FPT 2024 European freestyle champion, just a few days after his world title on the PWA World Tour.
In the women's event, Melina Vingaard-Schütt impressed by winning three heats in a row before being stopped by Elena Dominick. In the final, Maaike Huvermann confirmed her status and the victory she had won two days earlier by overcoming Lisa Kloster to claim her sixth European title.
The 2024 Freestyle Pro Tour season ends on a high note in Naxos, but with more wind to come, the freestylers still have plenty of action on the water.
