The amazing Triple D E-Xtension

15/03/2023

As a mechanical sport par excellence, we thought that everything had been invented and improved in the last few years in windsurfing, until we discovered this innovation that is likely to be talked about in the coming months.
The Dutchman Wim van Houdt and his son David, who has been a windsurfing enthusiast since the beginning, have just released an astonishing extension, the E-Xtension, the result of 5 long years of reflection and prototypes until the final version was officially unveiled.
As performance-oriented sailors know, sail trimming is a matter of a few centimetres, a problem that has been solved at the clew level with the uphaul line kit that has become commonplace on rigs over the years. But as far as the downhaul is concerned, there is no other choice than to stop at sea or to go back to the beach to improve the twist of the sail according to the wind.

Based on this observation, which concerns all sailors, Wim and David van Houdt of Triple D Innovations have developed an extension equipped with an actuator and a battery inside, all controlled by two remote control boxes to be placed on your boom. When sailing, a simple press on the + or - button allows you to adjust your sail in real time and modify the downhaul by a few centimetres depending on the wind strength or your point of sail (upwind, downwind, etc...). The remote control system can adjust your sail a total of 50 times.
A brilliant system (yes, we can say that!) and clever at the same time, this E-Xtension has been tested (and validated!) by the Frenchman Olivier Bernard and is currently in the hands of Nicolas Warembourg. Made of carbon and available in RDM version, it is also proposed with an adapter for SDM masts. And if its price can initially surprise (nearly 900 €), here is a small jewel of technology which it will not be necessary to forget to charge before leaving for the water!
