The final day on Sunday at the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt came to an end with the Foil Slalom and victories for Justine Lemeteyer and Johan Søe. At the end of the single elimination validated at the start of the competition, Marc Paré and Sarah-Quita Offringa shone in the wave discipline, while Lennart Neubauer was crowned freestyle world champion due to the lack of competition in Germany.
After a very calm Friday and Saturday, the long-awaited wind picked up in the morning on Sunday, enabling the men's and women's Foil Slalom races to be completed with an anemometer fluctuating between 7 and 12 knots. Despite these light conditions, there was nothing to stop Justine Lemeteyer and Johan Søe from winning the Foil Slalom titles.
Justine Lemeteyer dominated this 2024 edition with an impressive record: just 7 points from 13 eliminations. The undisputed leader of the world circuit, she won 11 of the 13 heats in Sylt, once again proving her supremacy. On the strength of her victories in Sylt and Fuerteventura last July, she goes into the final in Japan in November with a comfortable 200-point lead over Marion Mortefon. Mortefon ended the event in Sylt on a positive note, winning after an excellent start and a victory in the 13th and final elimination of the week. Reigning world champion Blanca Alabau secured third place, confirming her consistency after a similar podium finish in Fuerteventura.
In the men's event, Johan Søe didn't even need to compete in the final elimination to secure his first victory on the world circuit, such was his comfortable lead. The 21-year-old Dane, who never left the podium throughout the event, finished in third place. Pierre Mortefon was incredibly consistent throughout the week, finishing every race in the top five. He leaves Sylt top of the overall standings, ready to fight for a second world title in Japan. As for Bruno Martini, he claimed his first podium finish on a PWA World Tour event, ahead of Daniele Benedetti and Nicolas Goyard.
In freestyle, the conditions were too light for the simple elimination that had begun a few days earlier. On the strength of his victory in Fuerteventura, Lennart Neubauer was crowned world champion for the first time in his career. Adrien Bosson and Yentel Caers completed the podium. In the wave discipline, Sarah-Quita Offringa and Marc Paré were crowned champions after winning a week earlier.
This brings the 2024 edition of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt to a close, and all eyes now turn to the island of Maui at the end of the month and Japan at the beginning of November for the conclusion of the wave and Foil Slalom season...
