So well deserved for Pierre

10/08/2025

The wind sometimes has surprises in store, and the day before the closing of the Playa Surf CBbC Hotel Tenerife El Médano Windsurf Grand Slam was a perfect illustration of this. The forecast promised a promising day on Saturday, but conditions ultimately prevented any new official races from being held. Instead, the riders treated themselves to a long funny race from El Cabezo to the beach in front of the hotel, still putting on a great show for the crowd.

With the end of the competition period, Pierre Mortefon has been confirmed as the 2025 Slalom X World Champion. Having already won the title in 2019 and twice in 2024, he has now secured his fourth victory, achieving a perfect season with wins in Fuerteventura and Tenerife. After an injury at the end of May and the setbacks of recent weeks with his partner Phantom suspended from participating in the PWA, FRA-14 was able to draw on his resources to win with panache. Between Finian Maynard, the boss of FMX Racing, who found the right words, and the express loan of sails by NeilPryde, Pierre Mortefon has come a long way and proven himself to be a great champion.

Behind him, Matteo Iachino once again finished as world runner-up, his sixth second place in his career, but he is also an athlete who knows how to recognise Pierre Mortefon's performance this season. Soon to be a father for the second time, Jordy Vonk completes the world podium, a first for him. Fourth on numerous occasions, NED-69 missed out on the podium in the final elimination in Sotavento in 2024...
Unfortunately, the weather forecast for the last day is not very good on paper, but as the previous days have shown, anything can happen...
