Søe and Iachino shine right from the start

28/09/2025

The second day of competition in Sylt lived up to expectations. After a slow start to the day, the wind picked up in the middle of the afternoon, reaching 7 to 14 knots, allowing the first two Foil Slalom heats to get underway. In what is undoubtedly the most important competition of the seaso, the organisers of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt did not set up live streaming (without explanation), promising to broadcast the event from Monday onwards. According to our information, the confusion is all the greater because those involved in the live broadcast only learned that morning that there would be no livestreaming this Saturday...

The defending champion in Sylt, Johan Søe, immediately showed that he is ready to defend his crown. The 22-year-old Dane won the first elimination with confidence before securing a solid second place in the next. It was a perfect start, giving him a four-point lead in the provisional overall standings. His main rival is none other than the current leader in Foil Slalom, Matteo Iachino. After a poor start in the first race of the day (6th), the 36-year-old Italian made amends by winning the second heat. Søe tried to put pressure on him right up to the finish line, but Iachino held on to claim his first victory in the event.

Behind this duo, the battle is just as intense. Pierre Mortefon and Germany's Fabian Wolf are tied for third place, just 0.3 points behind Iachino, thanks to consistent results (3rd and 4th respectively). Poland's Maciek Rutkowski completes the top five after an initial 2nd place followed by an 8th. Amado Vrieswijk sits just behind with two 5th places, while France's William Huppert (7th) and Alexis Mathis (10th) are also in the top ten.
With tiny gaps of just three points between 10th and 14th place, the competition promises to be tight. The forecast is for slightly lighter winds on Sunday, but sufficient to hope for new races from 11am, subject to conditions.
