PWA World Tour, concessions for 2023

23/02/2023

After announcing its rapprochement with the International Windsurfing Tour and unveiling the broad outlines of its 2023 calendar, the PWA World Tour authorities are now clarifying the rules that will govern the 2023 World Tour.

The organisers have taken into account feedback from the industry and the Slalom Committee to adjust the rules for this discipline. This should lead to greater fairness between competitors and even more exciting competition. The main circuit calendar has recently been published and all planned events have been designed to accommodate both men and women in all disciplines.
The organisers have also taken steps to reduce the cost of running the events. The prize money has been reduced, as has the cost of accommodation for both male and female competitors. Airport transfers can now be charged for and the number of PWA staff at each event will be reduced as much as possible. The free lunches offered to competitors will be discontinued, but in return the PWA World Tour will reduce the time it takes to pay out prize money to allow for better financial management. All of this is expected to reduce overall costs by between €30,000 and €90,000 per event.

In parallel, the PWA World Tour has hired a new social media specialist to ensure a more consistent media production and increase the visibility of the events. This will also create a better return on investment for partners and sponsors.
These changes have been welcomed by both existing and new event organisers, opening the door to many new opportunities and renewed enthusiasm for existing events. By making events cheaper and easier to organise, the PWA World Tour aims to remain a world-class tour, albeit at the cost of some concessions for competitors this year...
After a few difficult years for the industry, the World Tour and the professional windsurfers, the PWA World Tour intends to adapt and move with the times, opening up new opportunities in the months and years to come.
