Peleg and van Opzeeland crowned champions

30/11/2025

The final day of the iQFOiL Senior European Championship provided a thrilling spectacle, combining tension and triumph, as the Medal Series took place under cloudy skies that gave way to steady winds of 12 to 14 knots.

In the women's Medal Series, young Norwegian Maya Gysler and 15-year-old Italian Medea Falcioni caused a sensation by qualifying for the semi-finals, despite a spectacular crash by Falcioni, who managed to recover and continue the competition. The final featured Daniela Peleg, Emma Wilson, Marta Maggetti and Maya Gysler, with Peleg and Wilson each one point ahead. After Wilson and Maggetti were disqualified for a false start, Peleg tactically dominated the race, brilliantly defending her title and securing a second consecutive victory. Emma Wilson managed to come back to take second place, while Gysler completed the podium in third.

In the men's competition, Dutchman Luuc van Opzeeland made a strong impression. After winning the semi-final against Pawel Tarnowski and Andy Brown, he faced Nicolas Goyard and Finn Hawkins in the final. He won the first race, drawing level with his direct opponents, then doubled his lead with a decisive second victory to claim the European title.
The iQFOiL Senior European Championship
ended with an emotional awards ceremony, celebrating a week of intense competition and camaraderie. The athletes are now preparing for the 2026 season, with their sights set on the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
