Publicité:

Offringa and Mortefon do the job

22/07/2025

The penultimate day of the Slalom X in Fuerteventura was marked by a historic moment and the 26th world title won by Sarah-Quita Offringa. The rider from Aruba secured her victory from the very first elimination of the day, taking advantage of a mistake by Jenna Gibson on the last buoy.

Without even knowing that she had just won the world crown on this single event for women in Sotavento, Offringa followed up with another victory, before letting her joy explode. Justine Lemeteyer finished runner-up in the world championship after a fine comeback, beating Dutch rider Femke van der Veen to the post, who nonetheless claimed her first world podium. Great Britain's Jenna Gibson, despite her speed, failed to finish at the foot of the podium after several errors.

In the men's race, Pierre Mortefon regained the lead with two consecutive wins. The Frenchman, the reigning world champion, proved to be particularly solid in the tough conditions, with a mixture of swell and cross chop. He will have to keep up the pressure on the final day to confirm his lead over Matteo Iachino. Jordy Vonk, who had been in great form up until then, suffered a violent crash which forced him to retire, while Maciek Rutkowski saw his chances of victory slip away after a crash at the head of the race.
The suspense remains intact before the final outcome, scheduled for Tuesday, with two decisive races to determine the winner of this Slalom X event in Fuerteventura!
