No Slalom X at Pozo Izquierdo

28/05/2025

The Gran Canaria Windsurf World Cup, a traditional competition held at the beginning of July, is returning to its roots this year with an edition focused exclusively on the wave discipline. Indeed, due to a lack of sponsors, the slalom discipline, which has thrilled Pozo for the last two years, will not feature on the programme, as organiser Björn Dunkerbeck has confirmed.
Since 2023, Pozo Izquierdo had returned to slalom, offering a captivating spectacle, particularly with the new Slalom X discipline. Introduced last year, it offered spectacular races with a ‘sausage’ as a jumping obstacle and an optional chicane. However, due to a lack of funding, the event will not be able to maintain both disciplines this year. As a result, Gran Canaria will once again be a dedicated wave event, with the PWA/WWT pros as well as numerous youth and junior categories.
This situation highlights the financial challenges facing water sports and windsurfing in particular. As a result, Slalom X is likely to be limited to Fuerteventura, where the new world champions will be crowned at a single event...
