Marcilio Browne wins in Japan

03/03/2025

From 18 to 24 February, the PWA IWT Wave Tour stopped off in Omaezaki, Japan, for the Spicare Omaezaki Japan World Cup, a 4-star event in the wave discipline. And after 3 windy days, Marcilio Browne and local rider Motoko Sato got the better of their rivals...

From the very first day, Motoko Sato, a leading figure in Japanese windsurfing, shone with powerful manoeuvres and radical jumps, and once again established herself among the elite. Behind her, Natsuki Wakasa and Chieko Tagai completed an all-Japanese podium, cheered on by the local crowd.
In the men's category, Marcilio Browne, the reigning world champion, showed his ambitions of another world title by putting in the best performance of the day. The revelation came from young Brazilian Jahdan Tyger, back after a two-year absence. With no initial ranking, he impressed by overcoming the qualifiers and even winning his heat ahead of Antoine Martin.

The second day saw a fierce battle between the best Japanese riders, Takara Ishii and Takuma Sugi. After an intense duel, Ishii secured his place in the final. Antoine Martin, who was off to a bad start, made an incredible comeback in the final minutes to qualify for the final confrontation with Browne and Ishii. Jahdan Tyger continued his ascent, finishing a promising fifth.
In the final, held three days later, Marcilio Browne confirmed his supremacy with a series of aerial tricks to take victory. Antoine Martin took second place after a tough battle with Takara Ishii. The latter gave his all in front of his home crowd, a violent fall while attempting a double loop even costing him a tooth and a trip to the dentist after the prize-giving ceremony!
After Australia and Japan to open the hostilities for the 2025 season, the PWA IWT Wave Tour is making a stopover in Puerto Rico from 1 to 9 March for the 3rd 4-star competition of the season...
