Marcilio Browne, portrait of a champion

16/02/2026

With you, we continue

This 50-minute documentary video traces the exceptional career of Marcilio Browne, five-time world windsurfing champion. It is part of the PWA World Tour's “Unpacking the Boardbags” series, following last week's feature on Victor Fernandez (see our article dated February 10, 2026).
Born in Fortaleza, Brazil, Marcilio Browne started windsurfing at the age of five, growing up in a family environment steeped in the sport. He shares his journey from his freestyle beginnings in 2003 to his transition to waveriding, a discipline in which he truly flourishes. His first world title in wave discipline came in 2013, after years of intensive training and disappointing results that forged his character.
The documentary reveals a pivotal moment in 2019, when Marcilio Browne was on the verge of giving up after narrowly missing out on the world title. Mentally exhausted, he admits that the COVID pandemic paradoxically gave him the break he needed to recharge his batteries. In 2022, after two years without competition, he wins at Pozo Izquierdo, a moment of rare emotional intensity captured in the film.
Beyond competition, Marcilio Browne reveals his passion for equipment development. He travels with up to 10 boards for certain events, each specifically adapted to the conditions. Working closely with shaper Keith Teboul at Goya Windsurfing, he explains how decades of meticulous adjustments have shaped his equipment. He also shares valuable advice for amateur windsurfers on the importance of adapting your equipment to your local spot rather than blindly copying the pros.
The film also explores his relationship with Jaws, the legendary wave off the island of Maui in Hawaii, where he surfs regularly. Now a father, Marcilio Browne describes how parenthood has transformed his view of risk and enriched his experience on the professional circuit. The documentary ends with his philosophy: to continue as long as he is competitive, while savoring every moment on the water, faithful to the childhood dream that still drives him.
