Luuc van Opzeeland s pre-season routine

23/01/2026

With you, we continue

With this first video, just over ten minutes long, Luuc van Opzeeland opens a new chapter in his career. The bronze medallist at the 2024 Paris Olympics has chosen the island of Lanzarote in the Canaries as his base to begin his preparations for the 2026 season. From the very first images, the goal is clear: to aim for the top step of the podium. But this project goes far beyond the quest for results. Through this vlog, he wants to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at where performance is built.
Heading to Lobos Island, a small volcanic gem off the coast of Fuerteventura. Surrounded by his team and several Spanish riders, Luuc van Opzeeland faces tough conditions: strong winds, heavy swells and challenging sailing. The riders exchange precise and practical advice on sail adjustments, body weight management and controlling acceleration in gusts.
Speed is omnipresent, as are trajectories in the swell and falls, which are sometimes impressive but inevitable in these conditions. Luuc van Opzeeland works specifically on stability and speed performance, seeking to optimise his flight over the water in order to limit friction and increase efficiency. Once the session is over, training continues on land. After about two hours on the water, it's time for weight training in a gym in Lanzarote. The goal is clear: to rebuild upper body muscle mass, which is essential for withstanding the intensity of sailing and maintaining a high level of performance throughout the season.
This first episode lays the foundations for what promises to be an exciting series. We discover the daily life of a professional athlete, between physical demands, constant adjustments to the elements, team spirit and determination.
