Light winds and Foil Slalom in Sylt

03/10/2024

The sixth day of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt in Germany got underway with three validated heats in freestyle before the decision was taken to switch to foil slalom in the afternoon. In light winds, Justine Lemeteyer and Johan Søe continue to assert themselves as the undisputed leaders in the discipline, consolidating their positions for overall victory.

In the men's Foil Slalom, Johan Søe once again demonstrated his impressive consistency. In six eliminations, he has never dropped out of the top 3 and has only dropped out of the top 2 once. In the only race of the day on Wednesday, he got off to a perfect start and led from start to finish to take his third victory of the week. With a lead of 13.9 points, he looks well on his way to victory in Sylt. However, the world title remains open because of his absence at the end of July in Fuerteventura in the Canaries, as Søe was taking part in the Olympic Games at the same time. Behind him, Pierre Mortefon moved up to second place after this sixth race, relegating Daniele Benedetti to fourth. Mortefon, Benedetti and Nicolas Goyard are all within 0.7 points of each other, promising a fierce battle over the coming days. For his part, Bruno Martini, after a slip-up in the losers' final, fell off the potential podium to fifth place.

On the women's side, Justine Lemeteyer continues to reign supreme in this Foil Slalom event. With 10 wins from 11 eliminations, she now has a comfortable lead of 11.4 points. Her consistent performances put her in an ideal position to claim victory on this German leg. Behind her, Marion Mortefon remains in second place, while Blanca Alabau, Bobbi-Lynn De Jong and Femke van der Veen complete the top five.
The forecast for the next few days is for moderate winds of between 11 and 18 knots, leaving some uncertainty as to how the final races will unfold and which freestylers will now have priority to take to the water...
