Lemeteyer and Iachino on top

25/04/2025

The third day of the Riviera Guadeloupe Windsurf World Cup in Le Gosier was marked by the return of the wind and some fine Foil Slalom racing. Matteo Iachino and Justine Lemeteyer took the lead after impressive performances in a variety of conditions.

In the women's category, Justine Lemeteyer, the reigning world champion, once again proved that she is the competitor to beat. Despite a change of sponsor during the winter, the young Frenchwoman dominated the day with four wins and two second places out of six heats contested. Her perfect starts and impressive speed enabled her to keep her rivals at bay. Lina Eržen, the 19-year-old Slovenian, is proving to be Lemeteyer's main threat, with two wins to her name, although Lemeteyer still holds a 2.6-point lead. The battle for third place is still wide open, with Blanca Alabau, Femke van der Veen and Bobbi-Lynn De Jong separated by just a few points.

On the men's side, Matteo Iachino marked the start of the season with an exceptional performance, winning three out of three eliminations and winning all his heats. The Italian, with his vast experience, outclassed his opponents and still seems to have some reserves. He was 3.9 points ahead of reigning world champion Pierre Mortefon, who finished second in every elimination but would have to find extra speed to catch up with Iachino. Alexandre Cousin showed great resilience, coming back from difficult positions to finish in the top 3, while Jordy Vonk showed great ability by qualifying for all the finals, finishing in 4th place. Behind them, some big names such as Amado Vrieswijk, Maciek Rutkowski and Daniele Benedetti failed to shine on this first day of racing, with ITA-60 in 22nd place for the time being. There was a fine grouping of French riders, with Pierre Mortefon and Alexandre Cousin in second and third respectively, as well as Alexis Mathis in 7th, William Huppert in 8th and Benoit Merceur in 9th.
The competition remains tight, with a number of changes possible over the next two days as the conditions are right for some fast-paced, suspenseful racing.
