Johan Søe on his way to victory

02/10/2025

The sixth day of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt on Wednesday had a nice surprise in store for the competitors. While the forecast had predicted a calm day, the wind finally allowed two new Foil Slalom eliminationts to be launched, offering the best conditions since the start of the event.

The big winner of this return of the wind was undoubtedly Johan Søe. Already the winner of the previous edition, the Dane struck again with a victory and a second place. After four races, his record is impressive: two wins and two second places. At only 22 years old, he is showing formidable consistency and seems well on his way to retaining his title. Behind him, Matteo Iachino remains his only real rival. The Italian won the first race of the day, but could only manage fifth place in the second, which prevented him from really threatening Søe. Although the gap in the standings remains tight, the momentum is clearly in favour of the Dane.

The battle for third place on the podium remains open. Maciek Rutkowski has been consistent and is provisionally in third place, taking advantage of Pierre Mortefon's unusual mistakes. The Frenchman, who suffered a broken back wing on his foil, made two costly mistakes on the jibe, relegating him to fourth place. In the rest of the top 10, Amado Vrieswijk draws level with Mortefon, while Fabian Wolf and William Huppert confirm their solid form. There has also been impressive progress from John Soukos, a 21-year-old Greek rider who had his best day on the circuit with a fourth and sixth place finish.
With more wind expected in the coming days, the tension is mounting in Sylt and the battle for the world title remains more open than ever.
