Johan Søe close to victory

03/10/2025

The seventh day of the Citroën Windsurf World Cup Sylt 2025 lived up to all expectations. Three new Foil Slalom races were held in bright sunshine, with ideal conditions: 10 to 16 knots of wind and a slight swell, providing spectacular and intense racing.

As has been the case since the start of the event, the battle for victory was between Johan Søe and Matteo Iachino. The Italian started the day in the best possible way, taking advantage of a mistake by the Dane in the semi-finals to claim his third victory. But Søe reacted immediately by winning the next two races, building up a solid lead in the overall standings. With two results already discarded (a 2nd and a 9th place), the defending champion in Sylt has a lead of more than five points and seems virtually untouchable.

Although the Italian has shown great promise with three victories since the start of the event, his lack of consistency is preventing him from putting the pressure on right to the end. His real challenge now is the world rankings, where he is benefiting from Pierre Mortefon's slight setback, who has been relegated to fourth place despite a strong comeback at the end of the day. Maciek Rutkowski has confirmed his consistency and remains in third place, ahead of Mortefon. Behind them, Amado Vrieswijk remains fifth despite a mixed day, while William Huppert continues his solid performance in the top six. The young Greek John Soukos has made impressive progress and is now seventh after a series of impressive qualifying rounds in the finals.
As the end of the competition approaches, the Foil Slalom could give way to freestyle and wave disciplines from Friday onwards, with winds expected to pick up significantly. But one thing is certain: in Sylt, Johan Søe already has a firm grip on the trophy.
