Heading for the finals in Brest!

31/07/2025

On the eve of the final showdown, excitement and tension are palpable in Brest on the sixth day of the iQFOiL Youth & Junior World Championships. In ideal conditions, competitors gave their all on Wednesday to secure their place in the eagerly awaited Medal Series.

In the U19 Boys category, Italy's Mattia Saoncella shines, taking the lead in the standings after five races. He advances directly to the Grand Final, as does Rory Meehan, who also had a solid day. Other favourites such as Malthe Lillelund, Artun Senol, Felix Dary and Peleg Rajuan will have to go through the quarter-finals to be in with a chance of a place on the podium. In the U17 Boys category, Dutchman Peyton Dits retains the lead, while his compatriot Finn Brull makes a strong comeback to second place thanks to three race wins. Portugal's Diogo Borges De Sousa narrowly qualifies, ahead of Frantisek Burda in the standings.

In the U19 Girls category, France's Salomé Simon, spurred on by the local crowd, caused an upset by clinching qualification in the final race. Italy's Medea Falcioni continues to lead the fleet thanks to her consistency, closely followed by her compatriot Francesca Maria Salerno. The Netherlands' Yfke Van der Meer took advantage of an additional discard to get back into contention. Finally, in the U17 Girls category, Turkey's Parla Kabasakal goes straight to the Grand Final, accompanied by two other teammates in the semi-finals. At the top of the rankings, Israel's Naama Palatnik seems ready for the big day.
Everything is now in place for a final day full of suspense, when the world titles will be awarded.
