Happiness from 13 to 76

20/05/2023

After 2 new races validated on Friday, Justine Lemeteyer and Nicolas Goyard remain in the lead of the Défi Wind when the competition is more present. And if the leaders are racing ahead, hundreds of competitors are enjoying the moment and these moments of happiness.

The Tramontane is still there in Gruissan, between 15 and 25 knots, for this 2nd day of the Défi Wind. Having had their baptism of fire the day before, the 1400 competitors are ready to give it their all. The fleet is so motivated that they start too early. The slightly diminishing breeze did not help and many of them took a long time to start. Among them was Pierre Mortefon, who struggled to start and, as a bonus, hung up his foil at the start mark. Starting from a very low position (around 200th), F-14 made a heroic comeback to take an unexpected 18th place. Ahead of him, Nicolas Goyard dominated and won for the second time, proving that he will be hard to beat this year. In a more open race in the women's category, Dutchwoman Sara Wennekes won ahead of Delphine Cousin and Justine Lemeteyer.

After the arrival of the last riders, a well-deserved lunch break and a bit of rest, the second race of the day started at 15.30 on an identical course (but slightly modified with this Tramontane facing west) and still 2 laps on the programme. The 1400 riders are now well settled in and a sublime race is proposed, the best with the knife between their teeth for victory, the others with a big smile on their face and making their race in the race. Decidedly untouchable, Nicolas Goyard takes a new option for the final victory, followed by Pierre Mortefon and the Italian Bruno Martini, already author of a great race the same morning. Justine Lemeteyer, who had been pushed around a few hours earlier, is back in the race ahead of Alice Read and Blanca Alabau.
With the wind expected to continue on Saturday, the big Défi Wind party will continue with an event that will delight young and old alike for this beautiful moment of fellowship and sharing.
