The Farrel Cup - ISWC Grand Prix, held from 11 to 13 September on the Rouet beach in La Palme, in the south of France, brought the windsurfing speed season to a close. Antoine Albeau was the fastest in both foil and fin, followed by Heidi Ulrich in the women's category...
The final act in the Prince of Speed series of competitions, the Farrel Cup - ISWC Grand Prix took place from 11 to 13 September as part of the waiting period running from 30 August to 21 September. Held in tribute to Farrel O'Shea, who passed away last June (see our article of 4 June 2024), the competition was open to several disciplines, including windsurfing, windfoil, kitesurfing and kitefoil, and this time was based on the maximum speed recorded over 500 metres, for the twenty or so competitors taking part.
On the windsurfing side, Antoine Albeau once again dominated the proceedings. With a speed of 45.10 knots over 500 metres, he not only won this Farrel Cup, but also the overall ISWC Grand Prix, in windsurf and windfoil. At the same time, he set a new world performance in windfoil with 37.64 knots. Behind him, Cédric Bordes made a great comeback by taking second place in the fin at 43.70 knots, while Belgium's Vincent Valkenaers, 2024 world champion in the discipline, rounded off the podium with 43.62 knots, a performance achieved on the final day of the competition.
In the women's category, Switzerland's Heidi Ulrich shone once again. With an impressive speed of 38.04 knots over 500 metres, she demonstrated her total mastery of the discipline, making her one of the best female performers of the year.
