Great battles in Croatia

27/06/2024

The IFCA Youth Junior & Master 2024 European Championships, held in Viganj, Croatia from 17 to 23 June, attracted nearly 70 competitors from 13 European countries, all in the idyllic setting of Viganj. On the programme were some great battles in fin and foil, with the French and Turks taking control of the various rankings!

The first few days of competition at the IFCA JYM Europeans were marked by light winds, ideal for foiling. On the opening day, the weather conditions made it possible to launch the first race in the early afternoon in a steady wind of around 11-12 knots. Day 2 began with warm temperatures and a slow start, but the wind eventually allowed the foil races to continue despite a few cancellations due to complicated conditions. On the 3rd day, conditions are ideal for the slalom races, with the wind oscillating between 15 and 25 knots. These conditions allowed the competitors to show off all their dexterity and speed in races that saw the different age categories compete against each other in Youth, Junior and Master.

The final results confirmed the domination of the young French slalom racers. In the Youth category, Lola Brotschi-Eibel and Isis Classeau took the women's podium, while in the men's category, Sacha Fortune took 1st place ahead of his compatriot Brendan Lorho and Dutchman Thijs Hanemaaijer. In the junior category, Tess Sermet and Eléonore Lambeaux completed a women's double, with Luca Pirès taking silver in the men's race, flanked by the Turks Kaan Erdogan and Cinar Tuncar. In foil racing, Matthieu Assorin shone in the Youth category, followed by Croatia's Ian Anic and Sacha Fortune. The juniors also excelled, with Luca Pirès winning the boys' title, followed by Croatia's Nikola Bilic and Turkey's Yaman Ozkayagan. Eléonore Lambeaux dominated the girls' competition, followed by Tess Sermet and Turkey's Damla Kurtdemir.
